What is IELTS? Understanding the exam
Everything you need to know before you start preparing for your IELTS course in Dhaka.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is one of the world’s most widely recognised English language proficiency tests, assessing your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. Your Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are taken on a computer, while your Speaking test is a live interview with a human examiner conducted over video call. Your Speaking and Writing are scored by trained human examiners using official band descriptors.
IELTS is widely accepted for university admission and visa and migration applications across the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA — making it one of the most commonly requested English tests for students and professionals applying to study or work abroad from Bangladesh. The Academic version is typically taken for university study, while the General Training version is typically taken for migration and work purposes.
The test is offered at authorised IELTS test centres in Dhaka, including the British Council and IDP. Right now, only the computer-delivered test is available, with results typically ready within 1–5 days. For students working against tight university application deadlines, this quick turnaround can make a real difference.

IELTS vs PTE: Which test is right for you?
Both are accepted for study abroad and visa applications from Bangladesh — here’s how to choose between them.
Most students in Dhaka preparing to study in the UK, Canada, Australia, or the USA have two main English proficiency test options: IELTS and PTE Academic. Both are accepted by universities and immigration authorities, but they differ significantly in format and scoring style.
IELTS is currently available in a computer-delivered format at test centres such as the British Council or IDP in Dhaka, with a live speaking interview via video call and your Speaking and Writing scored by human examiners. PTE, on the other hand, is fully computer-delivered and primarily AI-scored, with your speaking responses recorded through a microphone and evaluated by an automated engine rather than a person.

Meet the team behind your IELTS success
Dedicated trainers guiding every IELTS student at Edubase Global, from first class to test day.
Speaking & Writing Specialists
Most students lose marks not from lack of English ability, but from not knowing how IELTS examiners actually apply the band descriptors to Speaking and Writing. Our trainers close that gap.
Reading & Listening Specialists
We focus on pattern recognition — once students see how question types repeat across Reading and Listening, their accuracy and speed improve together.
Mock Test & Feedback Team
Every mock test comes with a section-wise breakdown, so students know exactly what to fix before their next attempt — not just their overall band score.

Everything You Need to Know About IELTS in Dhaka
Get clear answers about IELTS preparation, band scores, test centres, classes and choosing the right preparation path in Bangladesh.
What is a good IELTS score for studying abroad from Bangladesh?
Most universities in Australia, Canada, and the UK ask for an overall IELTS band of 6.0–7.0, with a minimum of around 5.5–6.5 in each section. Competitive programs may ask for 7.0 or higher. Skilled migration pathways, such as Australia's PR points system, reward higher bands, with 7 in each section counting as Proficient English and 8 as Superior. Our counselors in Dhaka can match your target band to your specific university or visa category.
How long does it take to prepare for IELTS in Dhaka?
Most students at Edubase Global complete their IELTS preparation in 4–8 weeks, depending on their starting English level and target band score. Our 1-month intensive batches suit students with strong English fundamentals, while our 2–3 month batches work better for students building skills from a lower starting point.
Is IELTS easier than PTE?
Neither test is inherently easier — they test English proficiency differently. IELTS Speaking is a live conversation with a human examiner, and Speaking and Writing are scored against official band descriptors, while PTE is fully computer-delivered and primarily AI-scored. Many students who are comfortable talking with a person find IELTS more natural, but the right choice depends on your individual strengths.
Where can I take the IELTS exam in Bangladesh?
IELTS is available at the British Council and IDP test centres in Dhaka. Right now, only the computer-delivered test is offered, with results typically ready within 1–5 days. Our counselors can help you check current test date availability, book your exam, and plan your preparation timeline around it.
Does Edubase Global offer both online and offline IELTS classes in Dhaka?
Yes. We offer Group Online, One-to-One Online, Group Offline, and One-to-One Offline formats, along with a self-paced course and Mock Test Packs for students who prefer independent study with recorded classes and portal access.
What should I look for in the best IELTS institute in Dhaka?

At Edubase Global, our trainers have 6+ years of IELTS-focused experience and have guided 500+ Dhaka-based students toward their target band scores.
