ToggleFor Bangladeshi students, studying in the United Kingdom represents one of the most respected global study pathways available. UK degrees carry extraordinary weight in the international job market, and with universities like Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, UCL, and the University of Manchester, the quality ceiling is among the highest in the world.
But before you pack your bags, you must understand exactly how the UK student visa works — because a single documentation error, a missed requirement, or a misunderstanding of financial proof can cost you your university place and your academic year.
At Edubase Global, UK student visa processing is one of our most requested services. This guide covers everything Bangladeshi students need to know in 2026 — from fees and processing time to documents and common reasons for rejection.
What Is the UK Student Visa?
A UK Student Visa (previously Tier 4) allows Bangladeshi students to study full-time at a licensed UK college or university. You must have an offer letter and a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) from a UK institution.
The CAS number is the single most important document in your UK student visa application. You cannot apply without it. Your university issues it after you have accepted your offer and met any conditional requirements, such as providing your IELTS results.
UK Student Visa Requirements for Bangladeshi Students in 2026
To apply for a UK student visa, you must meet the following requirements: a valid passport for the entire study period; a CAS issued by a UK-approved university; funds held in a bank account for 28 consecutive days; and a minimum IELTS score, usually 5.5–6.5 depending on the course.
The 28-day financial rule is one of the most common areas where Bangladeshi students make costly mistakes. Your bank statement must show the required amount — covering tuition fees plus nine months of living costs — continuously for 28 days before you submit your application. A temporary deposit made just before applying will not satisfy this requirement.
You must show one year’s tuition fee plus nine months’ living costs — in London or outside London, as applicable. Living costs for students outside London are lower than for those studying in the capital, so the required amount varies depending on your university’s location.
For living costs outside London, the official requirement is £1,334 per month for nine months. For London universities, it is £1,334 per month, bringing the total to £12,006 in living costs alone — on top of your full first-year tuition fee.
UK Student Visa Fee from Bangladesh in 2026
As a Bangladeshi student, you are required to apply for a UK student visa, and the UK student visa fee from Bangladesh is £363 (around BDT 47,857).
In addition to this, all international students must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
Students are required to pay £470 per year for the IHS fees. The Immigration Health Surcharge is payable along with the visa fee when the candidate applies for a student visa. If a dependent joins the student, a separate IHS fee will be charged.
So for a three-year degree program, the IHS alone comes to £1,410 — a significant addition on top of the application fee itself.
If you are in the UK and want to switch visa categories or plan to extend your existing student visa for further education, it costs £490 for a student permit renewal.
Priority Service: You can pay an additional fee of £500 to get a “priority service” at the time of visa application and receive your visa decision in only five days from the submission date. For students with tight timelines — such as those who received a late offer — this can be a worthwhile investment.
UK Student Visa Processing Time
This is the question Edubase Global receives most frequently from Bangladeshi students planning their UK journey.
You can submit your student visa application up to six months before the start of your studies, and you will usually receive a response within three working weeks.
The official UK visa processing time generally takes 3 to 4 weeks, which counts as 21–28 working days. However, it may take longer depending on visa category and the number of applicants submitted at that time.
Our recommendation at Edubase Global is to apply at least 8–12 weeks before your course start date to account for any delays, biometric appointment scheduling, and potential requests for additional documents.
Documents Required for UK Student Visa from Bangladesh
The core document checklist for a UK student visa application includes:
A valid passport with sufficient blank pages. Your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) reference number from your university. Financial documents — bank statements showing 28 consecutive days of sufficient funds. IELTS or equivalent English language proficiency certificate (minimum 5.5–6.5 depending on course). A recent passport-sized photograph. Proof of OSHC or equivalent health cover if required.
If your course is for six months or less, you can arrive in the UK up to one week before. If your course is for more than six months, you can arrive up to one month before the course start date. AECC
All supporting documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation. This is a requirement that Bangladeshi students should plan for well in advance, as finding a certified translator and completing the process takes time.
Global Study: Why the UK Degree Opens Every Door
The phrase “global study” is increasingly used by students and families researching international education, and for good reason. A UK degree is one of the most universally recognised academic credentials in the world. Whether you graduate from the University of Manchester with an engineering degree or from King’s College London with an MBA, your qualification carries genuine weight in job markets from Dhaka to Dubai to Singapore to New York.
UK universities also offer a one-year Graduate Route post-study work visa for Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates, and a two-year route for PhD graduates — meaning after completing your degree, you have real time to build career experience in the UK before considering next steps.
For Bangladeshi students, this combination of globally recognised qualifications and post-study work rights makes the UK one of the most strategically valuable destinations in the world.

FAQs
Q1. What is the UK student visa and who needs it?
Q2. What is the UK student visa fee for Bangladeshi students in 2026?
The UK student visa fee from Bangladesh is £363 (approximately BDT 47,857). This is the standard application fee charged by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). In addition, students must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) of £470 per year for the duration of their visa — so a three-year degree program incurs an additional IHS cost of £1,410. Students who need a faster decision can pay an additional £500 for the Priority Service, which delivers a decision within five working days. All fees are paid online and are non-refundable regardless of the outcome.
Q3. How long does the UK student visa take to process from Bangladesh?
The standard UK student visa processing time from Bangladesh is 3 to 4 weeks (21–28 working days) under normal conditions. Students can also pay for Priority Service to receive a decision in five working days. Edubase Global recommends submitting your application at least 8–12 weeks before your course start date to allow time for biometric appointments, document preparation, and any requests for additional information from UKVI.
Q4. When is the earliest I can apply for a UK student visa?
You can submit your UK student visa application up to six months before the start of your studies. You should not apply before your university has issued your CAS number, as this is required to complete the application. Applying early is strongly recommended, particularly for September intake students, when visa application volumes are highest and processing times can extend.
Q5. What financial proof do I need for a UK student visa from Bangladesh?
You must demonstrate that you have access to funds covering one full year of tuition fees plus nine months of living costs. For students studying outside London, the living cost requirement is £1,334 per month for nine months (£12,006 total). For London-based students, the same monthly rate applies, though total costs are higher due to higher tuition fees. Critically, this money must have been held continuously in a bank account for 28 consecutive days before you submit your application. A sudden bank deposit made just before applying will not satisfy this requirement.
Q6. Do I need IELTS for a UK student visa from Bangladesh?
In most cases, yes. The standard English proficiency requirement for a UK student visa is IELTS 5.5–6.5 depending on the course and university. Some universities accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from your previous institution as an IELTS waiver, particularly for postgraduate applicants from English-medium institutions. Edubase Global’s IELTS preparation program helps Bangladeshi students achieve the required scores. To explore IELTS preparation, visit www.edubaseglobal.com/ielts/.
Q7. Where is the UK Visa Application Centre in Dhaka?
The UK Visa Application Centre in Dhaka, operated by VFS Global, is located at Delta Life Tower, 4th Floor, Plot 37, Road 45, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212. You must book an appointment before visiting — walk-in applications are not accepted. At the centre, you will submit your application documents and provide your biometric information (fingerprints and photograph).
Q8. What is the CAS and why is it essential for the UK student visa?
The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is a unique reference number issued by your UK university after you have fully accepted your unconditional offer. Without a CAS number, you cannot apply for a UK student visa. The CAS contains key information about your course, your institution, and your English language test results. It is valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and you must apply for your visa within this period.
Q9. Can I bring my family to the UK on a student visa?
In some cases, yes. Dependants (spouse or children) may be eligible to join you in the UK on a student visa, but eligibility depends on the level of your course and whether you are a government-sponsored student or enrolled at a government-approved institution. Dependent visa fees and IHS charges apply separately for each family member.
